Looking back on my surfing journey, I’m filled with gratitude for the twists and turns that have brought me to where I am today. It all began in 2018 on the shores of Big Island, Hawai’i, where I discovered my passion for riding waves. Despite growing up near the coast of New England, it wasn’t until then that I truly embraced the ocean.
Living on the Big Island for six years with my sister, I developed a deep connection to the ocean and its endless possibilities. Inspired by the beauty of the sea and driven by a desire to make a positive impact, I embarked on a journey to repurpose broken surfboards into something meaningful. Upcycling became my way of blending my love for surfing with my botanical art.
As I delved into the world of upcycling, I discovered a newfound sense of purpose. Each broken board I transformed into a work of art carried a story, a testament to the resilience of both the ocean and the human spirit. But it wasn’t long before my journey took an unexpected turn.
Enter Esteban Lillo, a masterful surfboard shaper whose craftsmanship captured my attention. Our collaboration began with a simple idea: why not combine our talents to create something truly special? Esteban shaped the boards, turning them into functional works of art ready to ride the waves, while I added my own touch with preserved flower petals, transforming them into pieces of beauty and meaning.
It was a journey from upcycling to creating—each step fueled by passion and a shared commitment to sustainability. Our collaboration yielded remarkable results, with each board bearing the mark of our partnership and the spirit of innovation.
Now settled in California, surfing remains an integral part of my life. It’s not just a sport; it’s a way of life—a connection to nature and a source of inspiration. And as I continue my journey, I’m excited to keep pushing the boundaries of creativity and sustainability, one wave at a time.
In the end, it’s about more than just riding waves—it’s about making a difference and leaving a lasting legacy for future generations to enjoy.
